About Us

Austin Farnum is a senior Civil Engineering Major at the College of New Jersey. He is interested in water resources engineering, and has research experience in the field. After graduation, Austin plans to pursue a Ph.D. in water resources engineering. On campus, Austin was formerly a Community Advisor in Travers Hall. He is the president of Humanitarian Engineering, and a member of Chi Epsilon, the Civil Engineering Honor Society.

Austin will be responsible for team management during the course of this project. He will oversee the planning and the pace of the project, and will ensure that work is being completed at the necessary pace. Austin will perform a flow analysis on the slide using a model to be developed by Giovanna, and he will also design a system to deliver water to the top of the slide. Austin is looking forward to a strong project outcome and great working relationships between the team members.

Giovanna Costa

Giovanna Costa is a senior at The College of New Jersey. This past summer, Giovanna interned with HBK Engineering, a design and consulting firm that specializes in utility engineering. She worked on several projects during her time at HBK, some of which involved manhole inspections, outage planning for transformer refeeding, and base maps for proposed electrical designs. She also has brief experience in the construction sector, as she had the opportunity to work as a construction intern for Weeks Marine during the summer of 2019. During this time, she worked in the field as a member of the Pier 55 team for half of the summer and in the estimating department for the remaining portion of the summer. Giovanna is excited to continue developing her career upon graduation.

For this project, Giovanna will be responsible for modelling the slide shape and geometry. She will need to complete an analysis of the slide geometry and its relationship with the rider-slider surface interactions.

Zachary Michonski

Zachary Michonski is a senior at The College of New Jersey. He is involved with several on-campus organizations, including TCNJ Mixed Signals, Swing, and All-College Theater. He is also a member of TCNJ's chapter of ASCE. After graduation he is looking to enter the workforce and begin making a difference in the surrounding communities, most likely by performing structural design work.

Zach will design the aspects of the slide related to user experience along with assisting with the supports for the slide.  This includes the queuing system and tower.  He hopes the slide will be enjoyed by all.

Nicole Portington

Nicole Portington is a senior at The College of New Jersey, and she currently has a focus in the field of structural engineering. After graduation she is interested in going to graduate school for architectural design, and then later going on to aid in the design of buildings and homes. Nicole is also a member of TCNJ's chapter of ASCE.

Nicole will focus on designing the substructure that will support the waterslide, and she will work closely with Zachary. Her goal is to ensure that the slide is safe while keeping cost in mind.
